Just to touch on the "Joey" example again. I remember last year (his second grade year) when my son came home and told me that a kid could have two mommies or two daddies and that was okay. Well, you guys may remember when I said that I have taught Sunday school and Children's church for about 15 years so you can imagine my firm Biblical beliefs about such things. I was upset that my young child had been taught to be accepting of this type of family in the public school system at such a young age. I didn't make a big scene about it at the school or anything like that but some parents might... I guess I'm reinforcing what Jacqueline said in that we need to be careful what we say in our classrooms to our students about such things. I hope my unique position with children in school will be a benefit to our class by providing another perspective to our discussions.

Chevonne,

Thanks for your perspective...I had a sense that there may be some in our class (and certainly parents of the students we do/will teach) that share your views. It is often difficult to "be objective" when things are challenge our fundamental beliefs...we'll come up against this many times this semester.

Thank you for opening the dialogue!

Sorry I missed on Tues. After all the stuff in the fridge and freezer went bad we decided to look for the silver lining of Gustav. We took the kids to Ohio to visist the family. We just got back late last night. I will be ready for class tomorrow! Glad everyone seems to have weathered the hurricane and is doing okay.
